NINA DOBREV ON FANS, PLAYING TWO CHARACTERS and GIVING 220%

A reporter from the New York Times Syndicate recentlycaught up with Nina Dobrev by phone from the set in Atlanta. She had some nice things to say about the show’s passionate fans, and also spoke about the challenges inherent in playing both Elena and Katherine:

“So it’s been more about learning to manage time and learning when to let go. I’m a perfectionist, I put 110 percent into everything. Trying to do that for two characters, I’ve been putting in 220 percent. It’s been a lot of work, but really cool. It confused me sometimes, early on, and I learned, when you’re doing something like this 10 months a year for possibly six years, you have to preserve your energy. I feel like it’s been acting boot camp. I’ve done everything on this show, a lot of things many actors don’t get to do throughout their whole career. So there’s nothing I can’t do or achieve after this.”

PAUL WESLEY TO ASSIGNMENT X ON STEFAN and PLAYING PARANORMAL CHARACTERS

Assignment X talked to Paul Wesley (seems the interview happened at Comic Con?) about his experiences playing Stefan and other paranormal characters. On acting in genre projects as opposed to realistic drama:

“I think it’s really more about the human condition and you’re basing it in reality. Regardless of what the circumstances are, you need to base that in reality. You need to be a human being on Earth experiencing this. If you look at it as, ‘Oh, this is just a fantasy,’ then you’re not bringing true emotion to it. You can’t look at it in a biased way, you have to sort of objectify the whole thing.”

Screeners for the January 5th episode of The Vampire Diaries,The New Deal (EP310), were sent to select TV bloggers/reporters today, and KSiteTV has a (mildly spoilery) preview of what TVD fans can expect when the show returns next week.

7. Shippers will be happy. Which shippers? The CW gods said not to tell… but I can say at least three fan-groups get to see their favorite characters interacting. The choice of names that Klaus lists as “Elena’s loved ones” is also particularly interesting. And some shippers might want to get their screen-capturing software handy.

JULIE PLEC TALKS DAMON and ELENA’S TENSION & STEFAN VS. MYSTIC FALLS

Are you salivating for a taste of what The Vampire Diaries will be serving up when it returns from hiatus on January 5? If so, head over to Zap2it: they’re serving up an interview with Julie Plec. On Damon and Elena:

“When we come back in Episode 10, Elena and Damon are finding themselves in these moments where the romantic tension is a little bit deeper and the physical tension is a little bit hotter . . . They have to work together against Klaus, so they keep finding themselves in these moments that they’re now both free to act on, without guilt.”

And on Klaus’s new strategy:

“[Mayor Lockwood] says, ‘Klaus has offered to leave me, my family, and this town alone if you can get your brother to behave.’ So we start to see this manipulation that Klaus has in the town of Mystic Falls, and now that Stefan’s pushing back, Klaus is able to step forward and say, ‘Hey, I’m not here to cause a problem! Stefan Salvatore is the problem.’”

THE RIPPLE EFFECT CHARITY EVENT, DECEMBER 10TH

  
  

On December 10th, Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder hosted The Ripple Effect event, a charity dinner benefiting The Water Project. Vampire Diaries cast and crew members turned out to support the event and help raise awareness of the desperate need for clean water in Africa and around the world. Julie Plec, Nina Dobrev,Michael Trevino, Arielle Kebbel, and Bianca Lawson all attended the event, and while we haven’t seen a picture of Kevin Williamson yet

The Vampire Diaries’ scoop: Damon and Elena get ‘hotter,’ Stefan’s revenge on Klaus turns Mystic Falls against him

“When we come back in Episode 10, Elena and Damon are finding themselves in these moments where the romantic tension is a little bit deeper and the physical tension is a little bit hotter,” Julie teases. (We know what you’re thinking. Hotter? How is that even possible? Trust us… it is.)

Though Stefan is out of the picture, Damon and Elena continue to spend time together. “They have to work together against Klaus, so they keep finding themselves in these moments that they’re now both free to act on, without guilt.”

At some point, it will be revealed that his big “betrayal” at Homecoming was for Damon’s benefit. “Eventually, somebody is going to found out that Stefan saved Damon’s life, and Damon and Elena are going to have that to contend with,” Julie says. “They’re going to have some choices to make.”

Though we’re antsy for Damon and Elena to move forward (there are only so many almost-kisses the audience can handle) there’s no denying that Stefan’s evolution has been one of the most intriguing parts of Season 3.

Julie agrees. “For me, the biggest pleasure of the season — which I won’t say is totally a surprise because theoretically we knew that he had this in him — is watching Paul Wesley do what he’s done. It’s been kind of thrilling,” she says. “I love me some Paul! I think he’s a wonderful actor, and to really see him get to explode on screen has been so exciting and so intense and emotional. I’m really proud of him. I’m proud of the show, in a way, because that storyline really worked the way that we wanted it work.”

Well, you can put away those wishlists,Vampire Diaries fans: TV Guide has exclusively revealed who will be portrayingour final two unknown Originals. British actor Casper Zafer will play Finn and Australian actor Nathaniel Buzolic will playKol, brothers to Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah. (The article clarifies the point that the two other Original siblings died before/during the events of Ordinary People.) GET THE DETAILS OVER AT TV GUIDE.
